Gingerbread Bear Cookies

Recipe Ingredients:

2/3cuppacked brown sugar
3/4cupcorn syrup
1egg, beaten
2tspvanilla extract
4cupall purpose flour
2/3tspbaking soda
1/2tspground ginger
1/2tspground cloves
1canstore bought frosting
food coloring, if desired

Recipe Instructions:

1.   In a medium saucepan, stir together the margarine, brown sugar, and molasses over medium heat until dissolved. Pour into a large mixing bowl and let cool for 5 minutes.
2.   Stir the egg and vanilla into the melted mixture until smooth. Sift together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves; stir into the wet mixture. Cover and chill dough for a few hours or overnight.
3.   Preheat oven to 325F (165C). On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into bear shapes with a cookie cutter and place onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
4.   Bake for 10 to 15 minutes in preheated oven - cookies should be firm. Add food coloring to frosting while cookies are cooling. After cookies are cool add frosting as desired. Makes 3 dozen.
